In 2022, we launched Me Time Japan, a website dedicated to promoting mindfulness, diversity, and sustainability. Our featured articles blend traditional and modern Japanese perspectives, offering insights on living a mindful lifestyle and celebrating the rich diversity of Japanese cultures. At the core of our mission is the promotion of “me time” — encouraging individuals to embrace and enjoy solitude as a means of personal growth and well-being.
“Me Time Japan in Tama” was born from our desire to introduce readers to the hidden gems of the Tokyo area. While many travelers see Tokyo through iconic districts like Asakusa, Ginza, Roppongi, and Shibuya, we aim to reveal the rich and diverse culture thriving beyond the 23 wards. Tama, encompassing 30 cities and towns, represents the suburban heartbeat of Tokyo—a relaxed environment often overshadowed by the bustling city center.
Our journey began with a spark of inspiration: to connect deeply with the people who make Tama special. By visiting and engaging with residents, we gather local insights that highlight the attractiveness and uniqueness of Tama. We hope these stories motivate travelers to visit the places featured in the articles.
Like many regions in Japan, including parts of Tama, the area faces significant challenges with an aging population and shrinking birth rate, leading to depopulation. Preserving traditional culture and looking for ways to reinvigorate these communities is more important than ever. We invite you to explore Tama —an area rich in culture, heritage and fascinating people.
